Motor settling claims privately

Hi,

Somebody bumped into my car and has finally decided to settle privately. However, our insurance companies were notified initially. I will obtain a written estimate from my garage for the repairs. Will the final costs be as per estimate (a round figure given)? What happens if the final costs is more or less than estimate by a little bit? Do I have to fork our the difference if more; and do I have to return extra to the other party if less? Thanks.

If the garage gives a price to fix the car, then thats the price. Its not a an estimate, its a quote. He cant say the car will cost 500 euro to fix and then when you go to collect the car tell you its a 1000..
