Ex husband is a high earner, 98,000. We are taxed as a married couple and tax credits distributed as such, including incapacitated child allowance 3,300 and home carers 810. I'm starting my first job in years, part time, 8,736 total per annum. I know I'll get my own PAYE and I'm probably entitled to one-parent tax credit as is my ex.
So my stupid question is, is it better to be still taxed as a married couple or 2 single people? Legally I think we have a choice even if we divorce until one of us decides to cohabitate.
I'd like to be taxed singly, but I don't think the numbers will add up...can someone shed light please?
