Sending personal belongings back to the UK

I had family over from the UK recently. They may not be back for some time but left 3 or 4 personal belongings behind. If I send them back am I/they liable for customs duty? Items prob have no real value anymore but are personal (Childs favourite teddy etc)
 
Make sure you put a small value on them. The UK limit is about £40 including delivery fee for zero customs.

If there's no value they could create a retail value.
