I have a fiat punto 1997
to be honest this has been happening a few times but everytime i bring to the garage they test it cannot find the problem

i think it sounds like gearbox or gearbox fluid or something

what happens

on cold start this morning
car starts fine no issues, but then when u move off there is a squealing it varies in sound, b ut best way to describe it is a screeching which either can go quiet when u change gear , however sometimes if u put more press the accelorator pedal more it gets louder

i think it sounds like something about Gearbox either oil or something
am i on the right track
should i have kept driving into work
reason why i did it was 'nt too bad- with the radio up loud (got help any one walking on my route to work this morning early )

Re: screeching noise changing gear or pressing accelorator

This sounds like a slipping fan belt to me.

A loose fan belt seems the problem. The garage would not have picked up on this when you brought it in ....... unless the engine had cooled down.

Is it ok to drive it to the garage this evening though-

would it take long to tighten it , or could it hold out till 2morrow

Thing is though the fan belt was only replaced in november last year -
