some nice products next week. Combined VCR/DVD/Home theatre system. Looks solid, only downside is passive sub-woofer me thinks.
20 inch LCD and also, a projector...

Whats a DVD/Card reader?

Probably a DVD player with slot for media cards/memory sticks, so you can play MP3s, show pictures from your camera.

In all my years I've never seen a passive sub-woofer

I thought that you were talking about the saucy offers [broken link removed]!

..

You could always treat Mrs. Clubwoman...

or indeed treat yourself if so inclined!!!
:eek

Re: ..

Nothing 'brief' about my saucy lady... ;)

[broken link removed] is not a bad little toy, either. Plays mp3-CDs, and comes with a 15W active sub-woofer (none of that 'passive' rubbish...) The player itself is curiously identical to the micro system on p. 651 of the current Argos catalogue (@€89.99) — except that the Goodmans one comes with ugly mismatched fake wood speakers (2 x 12.5W, admittedly) and doesn't read mp3-CDs...

Just picked one up today, and will try it out over the weekend. If 15W + 5W + 5W sounds too tinny in the room I'm thinking of, I'll bring it back... :)

>>Plays mp3-CDs...

Jaysus lads it's a glorified boom box. Have ye not been to Power City? You can buy no name brands cheap there too. And on the internet.

Lidl are not new with this stuff. It's just that they're trying to be the first with THEIR OWN customers,

Re: ..

Is there a 3 year guarantee with the ones in Power city?

Re: ..

Plus, since I do a weekly shop in Lidl anyway, I don't have to go out of my way to return it...

And I haven't seen an mp3-compatible micro system for under €99 in the "high street". That's the price of the Wharfdale model in the Argos catalogue, which has no sub-woofer, just two 5W speakers...

..

I presume one could add an Active Sub to that Lidl DVD/VCR system later rather than useing the supplied Passive one...
And is there that huge a difference between one and the other?

Re: only downside is passive sub-woofer me thinks.

Cheap hi-fi is cheap hi-fi; I doubt if you can get anything significantly better in Lidl than you can in Power City or DID. Audio equipment, like DVD and TV has become mass market and there is little to distinguish rival brands these days unless you're spending more than, oh let's say €250 (probably more like €550).

If it sounds good, you like the price, and you trust the retailer, I say go for it.

And if you don't already know the difference between an active and a passive sub, I say don't sweat it.

If you really want to know more, hometheater.about.com/cs/...oofera.htm will tell you all you need to know.

..

I know the difference enough to know that a powered sub gives a better sound and boom....
but i am still wondering, if I wanted to actually plug an Active Sub into that system...can I do that?

Even though i must say, when i connected it up, the sound is pretty powerful as is.

..

Anyone know if I should be able to use this box to take the input from Sky Digital and then get my surround sound effect for what I am watching on TV?
