Salary Reductions

If your employee approaches you regarding pay cuts . . . do you have to accept OR can you seek a reduction in hours working.

I find it hard to counter getting up at 6.30 - working till 5.30 with no breaks . . . and earn 20% less.

I know times are tough but I cannot cut my childcare bill by 20%. Only way to make it more palatible is let me go earlier in the evenings (or work a 4 day wk).

What is my legal position?

I would certainly ask. Also, working 11 hour days, you are entitled to breaks!

Hi
Do a search for the working time directive this is what we had to implement at our factory. It says you must not work more than 48hrs/week unless you have opted too. About reduction in salary this has to be a mutual thing as far as I am aware the employer can not force it. But they may inforce redundancy to scare you!!

OP didn't say she started work at 6.30am - just that she got up then. However, OP is entitled to breaks, as mentioned. OP, perhaps you would clarify your actual working hours so that we don't veer off topic on that issue?
