can anyone explain what the standard rules on dicisplinary procedures are such as the dismissal procedures and dealing with harassment cases. I have an interview in this and need to read up fast, better still are there any government guidelines on this

Anything useful on the DETE or websites? If you are expected to know about this in detail they you might need to look at the primary sources (e.g. legislation which undepins the rules/policies/procedures).

JJ - You should get loads of information here.

www.entemp.ie/employment/rights/publications.htm

If not, try Googling (Ireland of course) Health & Safety Authority; Labour Court; Employment Appeals Tribunal.

I only have cursory knowledge. The link above is probably your best bet. Got that by Googling Department of Enterprise, Trade & Employment then clicked on "Employment".

You have a lot of reading to do. If this is for an interview
with a Union or in HR show enthusiasm! Overall, this area
is a can of worms.

Good luck. 8)

JJ - Just saw ClubMan and ajapale gave equivalent links.

All I will add is that labour law is extremely complex.

It would take years to be fully versed. Most reputable companies have "grievance procedures" as well as Dignity Charters. Whether these are adhered to or not is another question.
