RTB inspections, anything to be worried about?

I have a property that I'm thinking of renting out, could anyone tell me what happens when the RTB tells you to sort out issues in the house. For instance, I can't feasibly install ventilation, the house is 500 years old. It also doesn't have a banister on one side of the stairs. These are things that letting agents have pointed out but I'm a bit unsure as to whether they'll actually kick up much of a fuss about them and what power/resources they have to do about it. My mother lived there for 35 years with no issues, it's a grand house.

That’s a very vague wishywashy way to consider renting. You hardly need an auctioneer to tell you that a stairs without a banister isn't acceptable. Why do you want to rent it out?

So pay attention to what you are being told.
Well one agent was like "the RTB will want a banister, up to you if you want to put it in" and the other was like "ah don't worry about them, you'd be very unlucky, they understand it's an old house". So I couldn't get a straight answer, I feel they were just looking for the business.

So if anyone has more insight I would be grateful.

It has one banister on the wall, the RTB would like another apparently. It's the style of the houses in the area to not have two, to keep it more open.

@ Sr. Tayto, RTB inspectors don’t care how old your house is, if it’s unsafe or needs ventilation you have to comply.

It won't be an RTB inspection. They don't involve themselves in that area, yet anyway.

It will be Thorntons or some other private operator on behalf of the Council.

This is mentioned on other threads. These inspections are a pain. They'll undoubtedly pick up on ventilation. I had small vents in a place and zero problems with mould. They had to be replaced by larger ones because that is what the regulations say! Your lack of bannisters will be a problem as well.

They'll pick up small things too, weedy gardens, cracked tiles.

I would be careful here. If the inspection happens after 6 months, you've no way out of the tenancy for another 5 1/2 years and you may be presented with a long and very expensive list of 'improvements'. You'll have to carry them out.

This has nothing to do with the RTB. Your property has to comply with regulations. In any case safety is important. Is one side of the stairs open to the room? As in you could fall into the room?

What was said about ventilation?
