Hi

I'm wondering has anyone on here dealt with Royal London Insurance (mortgage protection, life protection etc)? What kind of experience did you have?

Thanks

My firm has been doing business with Royal London (including its previous incarnation Caledonian Life) for over 20 years. They're a good outfit. For years they've stuck to selling only protection policies and nothing else. They don't sell pension or investment products in Ireland. They just do one thing and they do it well.

No issues here, have had to ask them for letters for mortgage switches several times and have gotten same day responses so very happy with their service.

Have not yet had to claim from them as I'm still on the right side of the sod. But responsiveness to requests has been fine.

Very good service, quick to respond, very helpful to guide us through the process.

Haven’t had to claim from them though, I guess that’s really when a better judgement can be made on how good the service is.

Happy with them insofar as they provide cover (when I took out the policy, it was the cheapest by far) and respond quickly to queries. Haven’t claimed off them yet, happily, so haven’t dealt with them from the “business end” of things.

I have mortgage protection with them. I was overcharged on my debit card by about e80.00. There is another random charge too on the same date. I'm not sure what for. I have queried this (about a month ago) and I'm still waiting for them to get back. It's been frustrating.

If the policy was taken out through a broker, go back to the broker and ask them to take this up with Royal London for you.

Recent ARF customer (wife). Last two occasions they had to be chased for payslips, none today either.
Money supposed to be in account and its not there again. " oh its a bank Holiday weekend"

I'm sorry but these bank holidays dont just pop up unannounced, they should have made payment a day earlier to ensure it doesn't arrive in next Tues/!Wed.

Early days but She is not impressed with them thus far.

Had a much better experience with Royal London recently than Aviva for mortgage protection.

Aviva took weeks and still hadn't made a decision. Asked for GP report which was provided promptly. "All clear" consultant report provided pre-emptively.

Royal London approved on day of application with cover issued next day. Same medical information, same broker. Royal London's adaptive intake form was just better.

I have my main PRSA and a smaller vested PRSA (from which I'm drawing a small regular income) with them since last year via my broker. I've had two issue with their online platform relating to logging in and accessing documentation such as payslips and policy documents. They eventually fixed both although it seemed to take a bit longer than I would have expected for such obvious issues. But they were willing/able to provide me with any documentation by email that I couldn't access temporarily. Apart from these glitches I'm happy enough with them so far. Certainly worth the lower charges and ValueShare bonus so far anyway. ;)

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and putting it down to being a newish customer but the payslip issue us still "under investigation" several months later.

The reviews for RLI are overwhelmingly good so will reserve further judgement.

Do you mean online or posted? I get mine online only but, as I mentioned above, had problems accessing them via my online account a couple of times. But they were able to email them to me if I needed them.

Online. Wife has to ring several times today before they emailed out last months and this month's.

They were supposed to email last month's out last month but didn't send them.

Got both emailed eventually today. They weren't on the portal.

My recent problem with the portal for a few weeks was that the Documentation page was showing raw HTML where the list of documents (policy documents, letters, payslips, etc.) should have appeared. I even tried manually reverse engineering the document links but with no success. They fixed that problem last week but it took a while. It's working fine again for me.

I've noticed that some of their emails also come via some secure email system that they use and you get a link to view them but I've never figured out if/how you can get back to that inbox. But, again, it's not really a big issue for me.

I probably should also have said that if I have any issues then my broker or a direct contact that I have in RLI deal with them promptly and efficiently. It just happened that I needed to check for a letter on the online portal recently when it was having issues. Otherwise I don't tend to use it that often.

Recently took out ARF with them on recommendation of my Financial Adviser.
Portal is really poor - no live information; no access to payslips - IT has being looking at it for over a month. Have had to push for last two by email and last one still outstanding. Twice promised monthly statements to look at funds performance but still to see one. They sound great when you talk to someone but very little follow through. Yes they have a good reputation but I feel like a mushroom.....

It's not great and I've had several problems with it but I do have access to payslips under the General Communications section.

Oh, just checked and when I click on Download on a payslip (confusingly titled "Outbound Communication - EQ") it never downloads so I guess that it's broken again...

Can't you get fund performance details here?

In my opinion one shouldn't really be worrying about pension performance month to month. Better to choose the appropriate fund/asset mix for the long term and largely forget about it.
