Rough cost of wiring a house.

Can anyone give me any idea of the approximate cost of wiring a newly built house ?

It's 3,500 square feet with 4 bedrooms & ensuites, large open plan kitchen/ living area, utility room, study and large open mezzanine floor. Work would be for power points, light fittings and electric shower, immersion ( not including alarm).

I've had one quote from a contractor for €9,000 including parts and labour and one from an out of work electrician for €5800 not including parts.
We're awaiting other quotes but really need a basic idea in order to judge.

Mine was 6k for 3000 ft in 2009 similar spec
