roots in drains - insurance claim?

Hello,

i have inspected some drains leading to my septic tank and there are roots growing into them thus causing blockages. Does anyone know whether insurance companies will pay for the drain repair or drain replacement?
Has anyone any experience looking for a home insurance claim for roots in drains?

Sounds like normal wear and tear to me. Insurance coverage is generally geared towards accidental or storm damage. But sure call them and ask is the best option.

thanks extopia. my understanding is that tree roots do not cause the problem (i.e. they cannot break the drain) but enter any points where the drain is not sealed - due to ground movement etc. Therefore there may be a case for claiming under subsidence (ground movement?)

Sounds like a stretch to me, but like I say, ask your insurance company, they're the only people who can tell you. There's no penalty for asking if you're covered.

For a subsidence claim to succeed it normally requires damage to the structure of the house. Normal settlement isn't covered.

thanks. thought that the drains are covered as part of the house and therefore damage to the drains due to subsidence (ground movement) would be covered.
Will get cctv done this week-end and contact the insurer.
