Revised Closing Date

We signed contract 6 weeks ago and agreed a closing date for our house sale which is in the next few days. However we have received notification from our solicitor that the date has been revised. We have already made arrangements as per the original closing date and are not in a position to change. The original date was not challenged until now a few days before closing. Can we do anything about this or do we just have to go with the revised date?

Closing dates are aspirational only. Of course, one side may want more certainty than the other but it really is all about negotiation and flexibility, within reason.

You can request that the other side stick with the original closing date but if it's only a matter of days, there is precious little you can do, if they can't or won't.

If it starts to get serious with a longer date, you can serve a completion notice.

Best to keep a cool head and not let it get to you. Probably delay is caused by the mortgage cheque not being issued or dealt with by someone along the way due to the Christmas holidays.

I suppose there's nothing really we can do. It's cash buyer so no mortgage involved Thanks
