I actually hate the new revenue website more than the old one if thats possible!

I've logged in ok and now i'm trying to submit my form 12 for rental income (2014)
when i click form 12 it shows me last year and says "Outstanding", try to click in and get msg
"You cannot proceed as you were registered for Income Tax during this year.'

Well...to my knowledge i've always been registered for income tax as i do have a job that i pay income tax in!!

Any idea why this would be popping up?

This will be first year i am joint assessed with my husband who is self employed, could that be in? And if so how do i submit my rental income, i don't want to involve his accountant as i've always done my own return and he will charge us extra to do it.

If you are jointly assessed with your spouse then you cannot file a separate return!

I assume you are currently registered for PAYE, which of course is income tax but not the same as being registered for Income Tax.

ok, my husbands accountant said i could file my rental income return separate but that we'd still be joint assessed...is that incorrect information we were given?

so can i file the return myself or not?

i've sent a query on the revenue website but god knows when they'll get back to me...

You can probably file a paper one. I don't know about how ROS treats Form 12 & separate/joint assessment.

If you file a paper Form 12 and whoever is processing it sees that you are jointly assessed with a taxpayer who is a chargeable person they will return it to you.

It is possible to opt for separate assessment, but only during the year of assessment. In that case you both file separately and if there are unused credits or rateband they can then be transferred to the other spouse. Did your accountant set up the joint assessment? If so, did he opt for separate assessment?

Have a read of Revenue's guide to taxation of married couples, it will hopefully clarify things for you.
