Revenue halved Tax Credits without notice

Hi
My tax credits were halved starting January this year without any notification meaning a substantial sum was deducted from my salary. I eventually managed to speak to someone in Revenue who said this was due to an uderpayment of approx €2k tax going back to 2005-08 and that this cut was to be deducted for over one year. I do not self assess (am a paye tax payer), I have been constantly trying to contact Revenue to get an answer and said if I do owe an amount that I am willing to repay but under an agreed payment schedule as I cannot afford the amount they are deducting currently.
Anyone any similar experience/advice please?
Thanks for any responses.

As you are unsure if the underpayment is correct - I would call Revenue and request a P21s for those years - try 1890 777 425

Then check the calculations or get them checked if you are unsure

Thanks so much for the help. My dispute is not so much that I owe money (although clarificatication would be very welcome) but can Revenue deduct a large sum from your salary each month without reason or notification? I am now in a serious financial situation where I have gone from barely making ends meet to not being able to pay bills and this situation seems to be falling on deaf ears in Revenue.

You could contact them and ask them to extend the term as its placing you under undue hardship.

A similiar situation of an overpayment billf of €2k for TRS but i would greatly appreciate some clarity from the forum. Married since 2002 and lived abroad from 2001-2007. My wife bought a property in Ireland in 2004 and cleared the mortgage by 2006. I moved back to Ireland in 2007 but rented in Dublin for the first year until i finally moved in to my wifes property in 2008. I then bought a property in 2009 where we both now live and my wife's property is rented. The revenue commissioner informs me my TRS is tied to my wifes property since 2004 and therefore ended the €10k ceiling in 2011 (after 7 years). In the letter they stated “Where a person owned a property and his/her new spouse moves into this property, TRS begins for the second party from that year.” which is fine but i didn't live in Ireland until 2007 and only in my wife's property in 2008.

Complicated i know and apologies but i am really worried about the €2k bill and the loss of ~€1,500 TRS for 2011-2015 which i thought was ok?.
