Returnng from travelling- No Work - 8 week clause??

Hi

A friend of mine is returning in May 2010 from travelling @ the world.

Her dates are:

Late Jan 2009 Finished work & commenced travelling-

She worked with company for the previous 6 years.

Will she be entitled to JB from the day she starts to look for work in Ireland.

Her old job is now longer available. I have heard that people who finished their jobs are not entitled to JB for the first 8 weeks but really she left her work to travel for 15 months which she has done.

Hope someone can shed light on this for me to let her know?
 
What you are thinking of is that a person can be disqualified from receiving JB for up to 9 weeks FROM THE DATE THEy LEAVE WORK if they left without good cause. This will obviuosly not now affect your friend so she should claim JB as soon as she starts looking for work; her claim will be based on PRSI weeks paid in 2008 (min. 39)

She resigned in Jan 2009 - no option to take a career break!

On another note she knew when she was resigning how bad the economic crisis was but doesn't regret doing it for one minute - she's had such fun the past year!! All else fails back home she says she'll just pack up again!
