Return of Deposit prior to taking up accom

Long story short.

My daughter decided to take up an offer of accomodation and transferred the deposit to the bank account of the owner.

Prior to moving in or signing a lease/contract things changed and she has decided not to move in.

What are her rights in regards to to recouping the deposit.

She has tried emailing the owner requesting the return of the money but hasn't heard back - that was 3 days ago.
 
Did she give a holding deposit of less than a months rent, which would be non refundable, or a full months rent, which she may be able to recoup some of?

As far as i know it was a full months rent, it was over €500 so hardly a holding deposit.
 
Sorry to say Pee but as you say your daughter transferred over a deposit and the landlord is most likely treating ithis as a holding deposit. Perhaps you could answer a couple of questions
- how long ago was the deposit placed on the property?
- has she tried to call the landlord?
