retired couple moving to ireland from uk. medical benefits?

Hi

my OH`s parents want to move over here. There thinking about selling up in the uk and buying a bit of land next to my OH house and building.
His mums health wouldnt be the best... she tells me they get free medical care in england. Would that be the case here?

Yes, if they are not working here or receiving any benefits from the state ( which would seem to be the case if they are on pensions from UK ) then they are entitled to a medical card.

If they in receipt of a UK social security pension only, then they will automatically qualify for a medical card under EU legislation.
If they are in receipt of any other pension (e.g. occupational pension) from UK, they will be means-tested.

Over 70's are also automatically entitled to a medical card regardless of income.
