Retail unit change of use to apartment

If I purchased a commercial unit and got permission to convert it to an apartment and the conversion cost 50k would I be able to write off the full cost against rental income over a number of years ?
 
No.

The capital cost of purchase, extension etc of buildings is not allowable for income tax purposes.
 
However it would be a cost against any capital gain if you were to sell in the future.
