My mother passed away in 2008, and left a valid will, and appointed my brother and sister,( both) as executors and My question is this. Is it possible, (for any reason) for my sister to remove herself as joint executor of the will, as she no longer lives in Ireland and has no interest in remaining on as a co executor, leaving just my brother as sole executor of my mothers will. Is it possible to do that

AFAIK, yes. She will have to resign her position and hand the resignation to the solicitor acting for the estate.

mercman, Thank you very much for your reply, it's not a problem, I just wondered if it were possible. Many thanks
Paddy

Definitely possible. I've done it twice and am aware of others who have done likewise.

Say if someone had already taken out probate. How would that work, could they still resign?
