Replacing Vista with XP

I have a relatively new computer with windows VISTA. After using it for awhile I'd prefer to have XP. Can anyone tell me how to install XP and delete VISTA? Thanks for your help.

You will obviously need a properly licensed copy of XP and the installation media.

I didn't think that all Vista licenses granted you an XP license?

Not sure if this applies to you but I purchased a desktop off dell last year and got XP (with install disk). We then got a laptop off Dell which came with Vista (unfortunately) for my wife. We just used the original XP disk to zap Vista and put XP on.

The Dell OEM license covers this so you would be safe enough to do.
Note in this case it's the fact that our XP disk is covered by the fact that we're installing it on another machine by the same vendor!

The install process is easy enough (you just have to make sure that you can boot off cd which isn't always enabled....go into your BIOS to activate this)

You definitly want to get rid of Vista....the first service pack is just fixing known bugs. It will be some time before they address the performance issues in vista!

Are you sure about this? I was under the impression the OEM licence wasn't transferable.

To be honest I haven't read line by line the legalese on the OEM.
Was pretty sure you could.

But that link you post does mention that OEMs can only be used on 1 PC at a time. Even with that in mind if the OP is ditching their old PC and using the new one then that should allow them to install it?

I'm also pretty sure that you can't (legitimately) run it other than on the PC with which it came. For example:

An OEM license only allows you to use the software on the specific computer it came with
