I am going to replace gas cooker with electric, what do I need to disconnect the gas cooker and to reconnect the electric, there is an electric cable with grey box attached to it already in place at the back of the cooker ,there used to be a switch that I could put up or down on the wall beside cooker but tiled years back not sure where it went maybe behind tile, do I need this switch or can I put grey cable straight into cooker.

Assuming the power is there, it connection of the new hob is easy enough.

As for disconnection of the gas hob, you MUST use a registered gas installer to dissconnect and cap/seal the gas pipework and test it for leakage in accordance with current standards for pipework

I have a gas cooker, not connected to a main gas pipe.
I use refillable gas cylinders.
My friends have electric cookers which have their own power point with a red switch.
I'd imagine they had them connected by an electrician.

Tis true what you say about the gas and RGI installer.

Electrics may require an upgrade if the pre-existing supply is not heavy enough. You will also need to enusre that this is wired back through an isolator switch and on a separate fuse at the fuseboard.

Wiring of an electric hob may also require upgraded wiring, not a simple 'plug-in' job. You would be best advised to get 2 / 3registered electricians to check your wiring and quote for installation of appliances.
