repayment of marriage gratuity by teacher

I am a teacher and got married in 1971 when the marriage bar was in force. I was paid a marriage gratuity, but returned to teaching shortly after my marriage when the marriage bar was relaxed. Some 10 years later I approached my employer (a VEC) and offered to repay my marriage gratuity in order to reinstate my service, and this was accepted. I was not asked to pay any interest. Can I be required, on retirement, to pay interest on the gratuity for the years before repayment?

Is this any use?

If the teacher wishes to reinstate the pensionable service given prior to marriage, however, she must repay the marriage gratuity together with 5 per cent compound interest per year from the date of payment to the date of repayment.
