Repairing outside tap burst (qualpex/acorn type piping). Is this material ok buried?

Hi,

The pipe running to my mother in law's outside garden tap burst close to the tap during the cold spell. At the time I just broke off the end and doubled it over and secured it so as the water was stopped. Now I want to repair it. The pipe is qualpex/acorn type piping, which I thought was strange,as the norm is to use black plastic for outside pipes.

Anyway today I dug back a couple of feet from where the pipe surfaces to see if they only used qualpex/acorn above ground, but it was also used under ground. Now I don't really want to dig right back to where the pipe starts at the stopcock (about 10 metres) and replace with standard black plastic piping, as there is tarmac and concrete.

Can anyone advise if it is ok to leave the qualpex/acorn piping underground as is and just connect a new short piece to make it long enough again?

If so should I use qualpex/acorn or black plastic for the new piece and use an acorn/qualpex or brass type joint to connect the new with the old?

Also should I connect the old piece with the new piece below or above ground?

I hope you are still with me!

Many thanks,
