Wonder if someone can help me.I have a apartment which is rented out.The fireplace has taken a good bit of wear and tear over the past few years. My problem is this;the base where the ashes fall onto and where you shovel them up from has no cement left in it!There is only what looks like sand. It looks about 1 to 1half inches too low.The grate that you set the fire on sits into this instead of on the hard base. The tenant was still using the fireplace but now that the weather is getting milder I want to repair this.Is it an easy diy job or do I need to get someone in to do it?
Also if it is a diy job what type of cement/material do I need to build the base up again?
Thanks
Annette
