Rental expenses no receipts

I have rental income and have no receipts for some expenses. They are work done by tradespeople.

Might I be able to claim some tax relief on them when calculating rental income,?

Thanks

Under the self-assessment system you yourself decide what expenses you deduct. The real issue is whether you can prove that you spent the money in the event of a Revenue query. In the absence of documentary evidence you may find it difficult to prove this. The standard Revenue approach is that documentary evidence is required.

We have cash withdrawals for the particilar amounts. We will ask the relevant people in future for receipts. It can be difficult to get hold of them. They say they will givr receipts but we have to ask multiple times.

Cash payments and no receipts, wonder was vat charged or under the table payments,

If you want to deduct expenses, you need receipts, otherwise you are leaving yourself open, with no come back.

Not a landlord but when we’ve had repairs or work done in our house we never get receipts. I remember checking with the consumer agency a few years ago and IIRC, there’s no obligation on a trader to issue a receipt plus they only need to provide an invoice if the transaction is with another vat registered person.

That might have changed but what can a consumer do if the trader refuses to give a receipt?

Are individual landlords considered consumers?

So they take the job knowing a receipt is required.
If a LL couldn’t get an actual receipt, would a transaction on their bank statement showing the transfer suffice for Revenue? If the LL also had correspondence with the trader about the job?

It’s a bit rich that Revenue insist on receipts for LL expenses when there’s no law to compel providers to issue them.

Years ago I asked for a receipt for a payment via a bank account and none arrived. Now in such circumstances I pay 80% and say I'll forward the other 20% when I get the reciept. No particular reason for deducting 20% but it seems high enough for them to send the receipt.
