You can claim rent relief on taxable pay as long as you are renting. It can be backdated up to about three years. It does not require any specific health board approval. On the other hand if you mean rent relief while unemployed then thats a different story and you would (normally) need to advise your landlord if you were going to claim for this. This is not back dated and only paid from when you make a claim.
