Rent Credit Declaration

Hi

I heard from a friend that this is a good place for all kinds of financial/taxes advice.

My situation is as follows: I'm moving into my house at the end of the month so will cease to rent. I rang the tax office to tell them to stop the rent credit in my tax credits and was told that I qualify for the year and just to ring back in November to cancel it.

My question is will I be made to pay back some tax to cover the time between May to Dec even though I tried to cancel the credit now?

Unlikely.

If you pay rent of €1,800 or more in the year (regardless of whether that 1,800 is for 1 month or 12), then you are entitled to the entire credit.
