relationship broke up - what about joint mortage?

Hi,

I was in reletionship with my partner for 3 years. We have a 2 year old child together.7 months ago we bought affordable house. The house I always dreamt of.
Basicly my parner decided to leave me and my baby for another woman.
He moved out form the house.
I am worried now about mortgage - joint one.
I would be able to pay it by myslef - i would need to rent a room.
Would it be possible to take his name off the mortgage??
I dont want to sell it. I consider this place as a family home for me and my child.
Dont have a clue how to go about mortgage?? I also consider look for legal advice on it. Any recomedation for good family law solicitor??
Anyone similar sistuation??

I'm afraid you're going to have to park the emotional aspect of this and look at it as a straightforward business transaction.

You both bought together. You are both responsible for the mortgage. If one of you does not pay, the other is still responsible for the entire. Some people do not care about
their credit rating. Or their legal obligations.

Talk to flac in the first instance but it will come down to the numbers - can you actually afford this mortgage? The lender will very likely insist that ex-partner remains on title and mortgage.

Flac will point you in the right direction. But bear in mind that your expartners obligations are only to the child, in terms of maintenance - he has no maintenance obligations to you unless you are married. He has legal obligations about the mortgage .

Would he not have a legal obligation to fulfil the conditions of a contract he signed (the mortgage)? I have similarly taken out a joint mortgage with someone I'm not married to, but we put a civil contract in place first, to sort out these things.
