Hi ,
I just recieved my rejection letter from the HMRC to pay voluntary contributions .

I had 2 full years and then moved to Ireland .
This is the letter I recieved . It asks if I paid contributions in another EU country this can help to meet the conditions .
Is this worth it or can I transfer these 2 years back to my Irish contributions . I have 28.5 years of contributions with Ireland and 13 years left to work .
Thank you

Had you 3 full years of residency in the UK prior to moving? You don't say if you did.

That is a minimum requirement.

That must be where your application fell down so.

At least you will be able to add your period of NI contributions in the UK, if needed, to qualify for a maximum contributory pension here.

I am in similar circumstances to you. I got a very similar letter when I applied in 2020 namely less than three years working in the UK.

I did as asked and downloaded by Irish PRSI record and sent it off to HMRC.

They wrote back saying that I was eligible to pay the more expensive Class 3 NI contributions.

This is what I am doing now. It is still very good value.

PS: I don't understand how I'm actually eligible but having read these threads they seem very generous in applying their own rules.

Not quite.

The guidance says that time spent abroad can help you meet the 3-year condition of living in the UK (which seems pretty bizarre to me).
It - unhelpfully - doesn't say how it can help.

I’m still working on this one unfortunately I can’t seem to find anywhere on the HMRC website to upload my Irish contributions .
I’ve tried twice this week to call them but after 1 hour and another 40 mins on hold I had to leave it . Will try again this week.
