Can anyone fill me in on what the implications of having a charge registered against a property are, what the registration process entails and how such charge can be lifted.

What type of burden? Is it a judgement mortgage? Land registry costs €125 to register a burden on a Folio. To remove it you need a discharge from the party who lodged it. Costs €25 to remove burden in Land Registry but you will first presumably need to pay any monies outstanding to the individual who registered the burden.
 
Sheena, it's a charge on land which is being sold. The vendor owes money to a 3rd Party builder who has registered a charge against the land to recover the money owed to him out of the sale proceeds of the land. Just wondering about the process i.e. Can the charge be lifted by the vendor committing legally to pay the Third Party out of the proceeds of sale??
