We've a 1950's house and we need to get a registered gas plumbing contractor in to review the whole system, boiler etc. I'd say we'll be told the radiators need replacing. Can anyone recommend someone that they've experience of?

Thanks. But that seems to be about flushing heating systems. I want someone to come and look at what's there, tell us what's wrong with it and give us advice about what options for a replacement system we could consider. Do people offer such a service I wonder?
 
That thread does just refer to flushing out the system but the people mentioned are regular contributors to AAM and have been recommended in the past also. Read back over their posts to get a flavour of their work. Also look at their AAM profiles to see their trades.
 
I use David Galligan all the time - google it - been stung by cowboys before but hos ompany v good.
 
I'm looking for a recommendation for a SEAI gas contractor to upgrade boiler, heating controls etc. Anyone know of one? I don't really want to just pick one off the list. (Mad system, by the way)

Assuming you're also Dublin based (as this thread is Dublin specific), have you tried the recommendations above?

Out of interest, why do you consider the system mad?
 
It's a bit mad because both posts are looking for customer input/feedback but you just get pushed to contacting suppliers who use the board for leads.

Ah, can you point to the suppliers who use AAM for leads? We have a very small number of professionals who offer excellent advice free of charge here on AAM, and for this we, and the rest of the AAM community are grateful.

These users do not push anyone to contact them, and the suppliers recommended on this thread and the other one do not post on AAM. So I'm really not sure where you're getting this idea from.
 
No, I'm not saying there's no value or point to the info, I can see that there is. It's just not the info sought. If anyone out there has a suggestion it would be welcomed.

The SEAI system is mad. You have to pick a contractor when applying for the grant. Well, I don't know the contractors, so I have to just pick a name at random. I didn't see anything warning me that I'd need to know who I want BEFORE starting the application process.
Also, I need to know I'll get the grant before engaging a contractor. And yes, I know I can change the contractor at a later date - so why do I have to pick one when applying?

I never said anything about the AAM system of getting recommendations, which I've found useful so far; my experience of AAM recommendations is excellent in fact.

Yes I'm in Dublin.
 
Thanks Gordanus, I has assumed you meant the SEAI system, others took it as meaning AAM!

I agree on that. If they turned around applications very quickly, it'd be alright but expecting you to have that all nailed down, then wait for approval is a pain for all parties I'd imagine.
 
I wouldn't worry too much about picking a contractor unknown off the list. It is just for application purposes & on the Declaration of Works form that is posted to you, you can change the name & ID of the contractor being used, thus giving you 6 months to find a suitable contractor.
Alternatively, the application process is very quick on-line. You recieve instant approval so there is really no need to apply until you have found a suitable contractor that you trust & has hopefully being referred to you.
