Register for ROS as individual or Sub User

I have rental income in excess of €5000 so I have to do self assessment via Form 11.

I pay an accountant to do my tax return every year but I would like to go in and learn about filing a Form 11 myself.

Do I register for ROS as an Individual/Company or as a sub user? If the later I understand I would need to ask the administrator (?my accountant) to set this up somehow.

If I set up as an individual can I see whatever Form 11 things my accountant might be working on, on my behalf? Or would it be entirely separate?

If totally separate then might it be better to get set up as a sub user so I can see if they had started a Form 11 that I don't want to over write with my own messing around?

When I log in as an individual will I be able to see the current and previous Form 11s my accountant has submitted on my behalf in the current and previous years?

I would like for them to see if I have started a Form 11 (and saved but not yet submitted it) and likewise I want to be able to see what they are in the middle of working on for me (e.g. a Form 11) or have submitted on my behalf.

It's so we wouldn't cross wires if submitting things to Revenue.

If your accountant has already been filing or preparing form 11 self-assessment returns on your behalf then presumably you authorised them to register on your behalf at some point? In which case you should liaise with them to get access in the most appropriate way possible. If you are already registered for self-assessment via your accountant then you definitely don't want to try registering again as it'll most likely just end up in confusion and possibly delay in getting your 2025 return finalised and submitted before the looming deadline.

Over on this thread the opinion seemed to be that you can have your own access to ROS even if an accountant is submitting a Form 11 on your behalf.

Yes I have asked my accountant whether I should get access as an Individual or as a sub user. In the meantime I was hoping for some feedback here about the features and implications of each option.

Your accountant will have ROS access through an agent's account which lets them file for all their clients on the one ROS account. They won't give you a subuser account on that.

A normal ROS Certificate is an Administrator, they can setup Sub Certificates/Users with different access rights. eg. Tax Headings (Types) Read Only/ReadWrite access etc.

You accountant could make you a 'Sub User' of their ROS account (you would get a Sub Certificate) with just access to your Income Tax etc However, this would be unusual. It would normally used for their own staff.

Apply for your own ROS Account (Admin Certificate) as an individual.

I'll hang on and see what my accountant says but individual user sounds like the best way.

I'm curious if I'll be able to see completed Form 11s from previous years and one that might be a work in progress, just to learn about it all.

I am in the same place as above, for the first time my dividends are in excess of 5k and I have to register for self assessment. I have tried to register but my pps number is not being accepted. I got an accountant to file some returns for me a few years ago, is it possible that the accountant has me registered with ROS from before or do I need to speak with someone in revenue to help me with it?

I was registered for self-assessment years ago because of company share incentive income that wasn't taxed via PAYE at the time. After a couple of years I no longer needed to do self-assessment and I asked them to cease my registration which they did. However from this year I need to do self-assessed returns again and when I went into myAccount to register the option wasn't available. It just said "ceased" and there was no option to re-register. I contacted them about this and they told me that I should be able to revive my old ROS registration/account but I'm still waiting on my RAN (ROS Access Number) so that I can regenerate a ROS certificate. But they also said that if that doesn't work then I'll have to fill in a Form TR1 and send it in to them. I just paid my preliminary tax via myAccount for now and will hopefully be back up on ROS soon so that I can do my 2025 return in early 2026 (I'd prefer to do it sooner rather than later).

On myaccount, go to manage tax registrations'

Register for income tax

Wait around 24 to 48 hours

Ros should work then with your PPS to get set up

Yeah :-(

, there is a flaw in the system because there is no re-register option via Ros or myaccount and requires the TR1 a 2nd round to register again , very silly indeed

Not letting me access anything through the tax registration, looking for a NACE code?? If I complete sections A&B of the trx1 form, will that be enough to get me started? Thanks for the help.
