Refund of PRSI overpaid due to overlapping employments

Hi,

I changed jobs in 2011 and had an overlap between the two employments. This occurred as I finished job 1 at end of July but I had 1 month of annual leave accrued and so actually stopped working at start of July.

I started job 2 at start of July.

The result is that I was paying PRSI twice for July and I understand that part of PRSI is paid as a fixed sum per week.

I think I am due to be refunded some PRSI in respect of this overlapping period but I have not received any response from the PRSI Refunds Section of the Dept of Social Protection after a letter and an online query.

I just wonder if anyone else here has had the same issue and if they found a resolution?

Many Thanks,

I have over paid PRSI for the last no of years. It is not an annualised payment like USC or Tax, where refunds are given. There is no facility to get a refund through PRSI.
Its a shame as I am overpaying by about 500 - 700 each year.

3cc, PRSI is computed based on each week or month.

If you earn more than €352 per week in an employment then you pay PRSI. The fact that you had 2 jobs is not relevant if you earned over €352 in either then PRSI is due.

@niceoneted dont know what your issue is. Do you earn €18,000 per annum but get paid more than €352 for 50 weeks so pay PRSI but end up under the annual threshold?

Joe_90 - I get paid weekly but every 4 weeks or so I get extra for overtime and few other extras, this puts e in the higher threshold for that week but annually I earn under the 72k or so limit.

I could be showing my ignorance here but I am not aware of a 1% PRSI rate or a €72k threshold - can you post a link?
