Recommendations Maynooth & Celbridge

Hi there

Sorry if there's already a thread on this but I can't find a recent one.

We are an early 30's couple thinking about buying in possibly Maynooth or Celbridge and looking for recommendations. We won't have children so good schools and the likes are not important too us.
Priority for us is nice estate with minimal antisocial issues.
Also good public transport for getting into Dublin (though we'll be driving to work). Can anyone advise also regarding ease of getting taxis back from Dublin after public transport hours?
We drive to the supermarkets as it is anyways so don't have to be very near them.

All advice very welcome, thanks.

Sallins/Clane could be an option if you are looking for something a little smaller than those towns mentioned above. Sallins has a direct train to Heuston if you feel like not driving for any reason.

You'd be looking at around E30 for one way taxi to Dublin from Celbridge. The 67N nitelink goes to Celbridge and Maynooth at weekends however.

Can I ask why would you actually want to buy in Kildare? Ye both work in Dublin and (as stated) it's not for the usual "move to the suburbs with the kids" reasoning? Also, the fact that you mention getting taxis home after public transport hours would indicate you plan on socialising in Dublin city centre. To me, it sounds like leaving Dublin for Kildare would only add hassle and stress, especially if ye intend on commuting by car on the N7 every morning!

I only ask as I'm in same age bracket etc. and would be interested as to why you would upsticks to Kildare?

We Looked at Maynooth for a while and found some lovely well established estates there. Some new builds and I'm not saying all new builds, but some had Pyrite, the same builder had been building in Meath and maybe something to consider when purchasing. Maynooth has a good service into town. Good Luck

Thanks for replies.

We are both from the West therefore the N4 (where we also have friends) attracts us over the N7. We are looking at Lucan also but we have it well sussed out at this stage in terms of estates, amenities and transport.
If we could a house with decent space in it in the Dublin post code areas we'd buy there.

So can anyone give me specifics on Maynooth & Celbridge estates, preferred estates, where to avoid etc? Can you tell me what estates had pyrite?

Also are there problems getting taxis from Dublin out to Maynooth/Celbridge given its in Kildare?

Thanks again.

Apologies for not being able to put up the link. If you look up 'The Student Observer.' 'The Voice of the Apathetic 19/11/2011, Pyrite Protesters Picket Maynooth Development, it'll give you an idea of some of the estates in Maynooth. Same guy who built Newcastle Woods and Glen Abhann in Enfield, Co Meath. There are no problems getting taxi's to and from Maynooth, easy enough up the N4.

nice estates I think in Celbridge are, Oldtown Mill, Wolstan Haven, Ballygoran, Thornhill Meadows, Oakleigh, Ash Grove, Beatty Park, Temple Manor, Crodaun, Chelmsfort.

Ones I would avoid are St Raphaels Manor, Abbey Farm, Patricks Park, Castletown, Primrose Gate, Castle Village,

Celbridge is nice good public transport, pubs are quiet though and its around €30 to 40 for a taxi home at night. Train station is outside of town and goes into Heuston but there is a free feeder bus that goes around the village in the morning and evening doing drop off and pick ups.

Maynooth is a busier town but a traffic nightmare if you have to drive through the village any time of the day at night. Even at 2am there can be a traffic jam in it. Best of luck house hunting.

Not quite sure what your criteria is for avoiding estates but I can tell u that there is absolutely nothing wrong with Abbey farm in Celbridge.
It is a very well established estate with a very active maintenance association who guarantee the grounds are kept in excellent condition.

As it seems you both work in Dublin are you sure this is a good idea. The traffic is horrendous. Maybe you should rent in the area for a year to see how you like it. If you do make the move, stop seeing Dublin as your social place and instead become part of the location you live in. Sounds like a torturous lifestyle otherwise.

Door to door Dublin one area to Celbridge is 50 mins, this included a walk to heuston by choice. Celbridge to heuston is 20 mins max.

Rather than start a new thread, I wonder if anyone has further information on Maynooth. We are looking at moving there (young family) but I'm not sure what estates are mainly rented to students etc. Would be grateful for any thoughts anyone might have. Thanks.

Not sure about Maynooth, but we lived in Celbridge for 5 years (Castle Village) and found it a wonderful place to live. There was a great community feel, Castletown Est on our door step for walks and different family events throughout the year. Kids in the estate were all great. We moved because of work, otherwise we would have happily raised our family there.

@canthinkname

Hi .... I am searching for houses and I like a property in Primrose Gate. You mentioned in the post , suggesting to avoid it. May I know if there are some reasons for that. Is there any issues with Pyrites in the property.

Hi ayan2B,

Welcome to AAM.

Have you had a look on Google at this article. It does not mention Primrose Gate but perhaps @canthinkname will get back to you in due course. Perhaps you should have a look on boards.ie as that Google link does include something from boards.

A friend told me recently that one problem in Maynooth is to get signed up with a G.P. practice which is common in a lot of areas recently.

Parking might be a problem also in the village.
