Anybody got a budget priced recommendation for Payroll Software for one single employee ?
Have used Thesaurus in the past , about 20 years ago found it very straight forward but it was for the company I worked with at the time which had 20 employees.
Also , what is the best way to go about setting up as an employer , hiring a single employee ( home care assistant for elderly relative)
Thanks in advance

I use collsoft and you get that for €199 plus Vat. It is easy to use. There may be cheaper ones around. For an employer just register as so through ROS.

You can register as an employer on myaccount or ROS.
This is done online.
There is lots of information on registering as an employer and employing people on Revenue.ie.

You don't necessarily need software.
You can submitt all wages details by online form.
Employments can be created and ceased online.
No paperwork is needed.
This can be done on a weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly, 6 monthly or yearly basis.
You can set up a direct debit to automatically pay PAYE, Prsi and USC.

i used Sage payroll for a singly domestic employee (childminder) and found it very easy to use. As someone with no accounting experience, it connected to Revenue directly to upload pay details, then i would just need to log on to ROS every month to confirm the statement and pay. It cost about €14 per month.

I 2nd Collsoft, great user friendly software and Jason/owner is brilliant and so helpful

Ok , took on Collsoft 2 month trial, I'm sure I'll be renewing it as it is very straightforward.
Set up as employer with ROS. Simple process.
New employee has PPS number sorted , still waiting on PS card but has PPS number today.
Next question : what is the quickest way for the employee to now apply for their tax credit certificate and how long does it take Revenue to issue the certificate hopefully ?
Thanks for your help to date AAM Contributors. Brilliant

If the employee has never been employed in Ireland before, they should ring Revenue. There have been no requesting Tax Credit Certificates since 2019. You just set them up in the payroll and the payroll requests a RPN for them. If the RPN values are zeros/wrong, they ring Revenge or log onto their MyAccount to fix them. You can then request the RPN again, they are updated in realtime. Legally you have to apply what ever figures come in the RPN. If the employee is not happy them, it is the employees problem to sort them out.

If the employee has no other employment all their tax credits and 20% tax band, and all their USC bands will be automatically applied to your employment.

Just an update on my post above of 13.11.25. Everything had gone perfect up to that date , I had gone through all the process and the employee eventually received her PPS Card in the post on 16.11.25

I helped my employee to set up in myaccount on 13.11.25 and they got a message saying a code will be sent in the post to her that would enable her to get her tax credits sorted.

3 weeks later she has received nothing and is now getting unsettled about the situation after having had deductions of more than half her wages deducted by me in her first month's payroll. The second month employment period is coming up next week.
She has rang Revenue 10 days ago and they have said they are very busy the code was on the way in a few days but she has received nothing.

My question is : can I check out what credits she definately would be entitled to and use them provisionally until Revenue sort out her official tax credits. What would Revenue's view of this be ?

You could change the wages from monthly to quarterly.
You could then submitt the wages details at the end of the three month period.

In the meantime you could give the employee a payment equal to your estimated correct after tax amount.

no, you've to apply the rpn provided , don't go down this route

Phone who and at what phone number
Revenue. They will set the employee up on their system over the phone. Because they have applied for a MyAccount they will need to get their login detail, login in, answer a few questions (married/single etc) and register their first employment.
