Most of these firms pay the search companies to be featured as specialists in the results to such searches, and the page these searches will lead you to will make it look like they focus on that particular area, but if you look at the main page on their website you'll find they cover a much broader range and construction industry claims are likely to only form a very small part of their overall business.
Actually, first 2 solicitors just from original search asked alot of questions about construction regulations as they seemed clueless, after doing search via Co Pilot and stating claim in construction industry, about 6 names came up. First straight away just seemed to know alot as I had hoped they would. So he going with them.tks

But the solicitor will just pass it on to a barrister who specialise in that area...he is really a middle man like a gp passing you on to a consultant.
No, having a solicitor experienced/skilled in a particular area is a prudent approach. Solicitors don't just interview the client and pass everything on to a barrister. 
They provide professional advice and guidance. For example you likely won't get near a barrister and have to foot those (probably significant) costs if the case is weak and not worth taking.
