As per the heading

I know there is a Money makeover but would rather speak to someone face to face

We have mortgage, savings and both work and looking to discuss tax and savings advise and if we are utilising our money correctly. Private and public pension with work and want to look at income protection and also our pension contributions. Not looking at chaging mortgage

Anyone got any recommendations

I don't think that there are any special tax or investment or other financial considerations applying to Dublin Northside?

I would not say that to loud as plenty of incentive over here

On a serious note any recommendatiions other than what ChatGPT can advise as looking to speak to some advisor near by

@IrishGunner

Realistically, what's the expectation here on advice/product/costs?

That you pay a fee only adviser (that seems to be the house advice on here) for independent advice on the different areas you need covered and present you with an finacial plan. Is it just a one-off consultation you'll need? Indicative cost might be €2,000.

That you then buy the income protection (assumiong it's recommended that you buy it) from another source and pay for the advice, set up and sevice of that contract separately and that this person gets paid commission from the contract by the product provider?

More as closer to retirement but have young kids and looking to see what we can do to ensure getting best for myself and kids. Your saying a one off consulation would cost €2k approx. What we want is to put our current situation in relation to savings, wages, pension, investments etc on the table and see if any ways of ensuring we get any better returns or can utilize our income any better

That's obviously your prerogative but you'll likely get as good if not better feedback for free by doing a Money Makeover to be honest.
And sometimes people need to see someone in person who can give them accountable advice. It's a personal choice.

I just looked at two adviser websites and that was about the average that was quoted. One of them did say €1,000 - €2,000 but that's probably to do with how complex a case might be. In truth, the divide between (most) consumer expecations on fees (fee only) and reality of the fees is very wide.

It is a choice, but which is the better choice?

Anyone who is aware of askaboutmoney should do a MoneyMakeover.

Then if they still feel that they professional advice, then they can get it, and they will be much better prepared for it.

And the risk of going to a professional advisor is quite high.

Thanks

Yep been on AAM a while and not comfortable discussing Personal Finance on public board but got advise on other things so its been helpfull

Still doing reasearch and asking our solicotor for any recommendations possible but they could only send us a tax advisor whom seem to be more for company tax rather than personal

Yes, that's why I said...

If you're worried about being identified via your pseudonymous handle then you could maybe post under a different identity created just for the purposes of doing a Money Makeover.

Another good Dublin adviser and occasional poster on AAM is Vincent Digby of http://www.impartial.ie (www.impartial.ie) but again - not a North Cider.

Anyone used Asked Paul https://www.askpaul.ie

Not sure if he is affiliated to any company or independent as dont want this. Was in our company giving advise but missed it.I am in the private sector wife in public and looking for financial advise as we have child with additional needs and want whats best for him We are close ish to pension age so looking at doing this soon

Why not do a Money Makeover here?
It could be useful even if you still decide to get independent professional advice elsewhere.

Other than this issue, anybody should be able to research and get information on AAM, with no need to pay for any advice.

This issue complicates matters.
Yes we have looked at discretionary trust with solicitor but just want to make sure money we are are investing, wifes avc into pesion etc is getting good value etc. Was onto broker explaining our circunstances and they said get finanical advisor CFP qualified and independent and not tied to any investment firm. Large payment maybe for it but in long term better esp for our son
Like many brokers, this firm has agencies for multiple pension and insurance companies.

So most of the big hitters but just dont want one where they recommend x over y as they wil get a bigger commission or does that happen?

We are doing research and dont want a Money Make over post here for personal reasons we just want to speak to a independent finanacial advisor see what they have to say and then make our decisions
