Looking for a recommendation, or even a steer in the right direction, for part of our honeymoon in Thailand. Staying 2 nights in Bangkok and then to an island on the west coast. We're thinking either Phuket or Phi Phi but the choice is huge. I'm indecisive at the best of times so this is just doing my head in! We're looking for a luxurious resort with something more than just a hotel room with a balcony. Would love a villa with our own private terrace or something. We also want to be able to do a few tours while we're there, like visit Phi Phi if we stay in Phuket. We'll be spending 5 nights there. Any recommendations gratefully appreciated!

For Bangkok I'd recommend the Dusit Thani. Dusit are a Thai owned hotel chain (various level hotels but the Thani brand are the luxury ones) and this hotel is lovely. Treat yourselves and upgrade to the club floor for extra luxury. Hotel is in great location on the Silom Road.

We've stayed there twice and will go back. Loads of international hotels in BK, but a Sheraton is always a Sheraton, ditto Hilton, Westin etc. These hotels are luxury but part of their lure is that you always get the same basics.

Haven't been to the islands, we've done Hua Hin (loved it) and Pattaya (hated it) as well as Chiang Mai. Stayed in Dusits all the way. There's a gorgeous looking Dusit Thani in Phuket, and they have villas as an option.

It's worth emailing them to see if they'll give you an even better deal if you stay in Dusits all the way. We saved an extra 20% by doing that!

highly recommend the Westin Grand Sukhumvit in Bangkok. Have stayed there twice before and wouldn't hesitate to go back again. The hotel & facilities are top class and the location is spot on - right beside a skytrain station which makes it handy for getting around. Close to plenty of shops & restaurants too. Also good location for airport transfers.

If you are heading to Phuket check out he Amari Coral Beach hotel. Stayed there last september and cant wait to go back.

I haven't been to Phuket but from speaking to people who've been there it's quite big and commercialised. Phi Phi is really beautiful. Very small and laid back. No traffic, lovely beaches and some really good restaurants. In saying that, it was 9 years ago so I'm not sure if it's changed. Didn't go to Bangkok. Enjoy your trip!!
