What sort of investment? Returns on most investments as opposed to interest on deposits are not subject to DIRT but to other taxes (e.g. 23% exit tax or income tax etc.). It may be a moot point here but if DIRT is relevant then see here as it depends on other circumstances as to whether or not an 83 year old can reclaim DIRT.
