Re: Receptionist/Admin

Hello Mrs V,

This isn't going to be very helpful, but it depends on the organisation.

For instance our receptionist here is paid around about 23k pa whereas admin staff are paid 28-35k pa.

Re: Receptionist/Admin

Receptionist work is generally not paid very well. The best way to find out salaries for your local area, is to go to an recruitment agency. They will look at your CV, tell you honestly what salary you should be on. They may suggest courses/experience which would add value to your CV.

You could try & look at moving to a senior role, e.g. PA to someone, or try to get into admin/accounts.

See what you are interested in e.g. marketing/accounts. Do a course for one of these, & try to get some experience.

On your CV you should highlight your admin experience, play down your receptionist experience when applying for new jobs. Also tell the agencies what salary you are 'expecting' even if it is a good few K higher than your current salary. If you tell out your current salary, the new job will only give you 2K more than your current salary.

Re: Receptionist/Admin

Receptionist in Dublin (where i worked) - €23k
Admin in Dublin - €25-28k

Receptionist down country (where i am now) - €20k
Admin - €23-28k

Re: Receptionist/Admin

Thanks for your comments, i'm just hitting the 18k mark at the moment with 3 yrs experience & at that i'm based in cork

Re: Receptionist/Admin

For Cork you are being under paid. Office where I work is small enough. Reception/Admin start off on 25k with pay increases every 6 to 12 months. If you have 3 years experience and you are good at your job my advice would be to move. There are loads of admin jobs out there in Cork. Do a quick search on irishjobs.ie and see what you come up with.

Re: Receptionist/Admin

Honestly, The last company I worked for as well the receptionist/Admin started off on 25K with pay increases every Jan(min 3%).

Buzybee is right. Try and get into a company where you can move into a different dept. A lot of companies I know of like to train you themselves first and then maybe they might pay for you to go to college part time(evenings) so long as you pass your exams. Plenty of companies like this in the airport business park and the business parks in Little Island.

PS No jobs going here at the mo

Re: Receptionist/Admin

In West Dublin, our Receptionist is currently on €33K, she is Secretary to MD as well. She has over 20 years experience and took a drop in salary to take the job. She had worked in a very high pressure job for years and had enough. With a very small mortgage she was able to do so and still have a comfortable lifestyle. We also get excellent Christmas Bonus and presents. There's also nice little touches like for example, on a Bank holiday weekend you could be given €50 to have a drink over the weekend. We find it very hard to recruit decent office staff under €30K, at least thats what the agencies tell us.

My friend who works on the Switchboard in a large bank in the city centre of Dublin, is on €40K with benefits, which include subsidised gym membership, annual bonus, and travel allowance.

My advice too would be to play up your admin. experience and play down the receptionist role. I would certainly register with agencies and get their feedback.
€18K seems very low for someone with three years experience.
