Reasonable offer of costs for commuting lift

I do this exact amount of commuting in the week. It costs about 50/55 odd euro in petrol for me. I would be more than happy if I was giving someone a hassle free lift - ie not going out of my way, not having to wait for them etc, to pay 30 euro (just over half) and no more. I would be embarrassed if it was getting anything more.

I'd say between €30 and €40 would be a fair amount, splitting of course any tolls etc - €30 if person is going in exactly that direction, €40 if they go even a little bit out of their way.

Tolls - hadn't even thought of that.

I would have thought it a bit stingy to also expect a contribution to the tolls - no?

€20 towards petrol sounds fair, driver might not even accept this. I personally would not expect anything if i was doing this and not going out of my way as you said

assuming the other person is a friend 30 or 40 seems about right the way things are now every little helps. and as already stated a bit of company is very welcome on commutes most of the time.
