Reasonable Notice

I have been offered a new position and plan to hand my notice in next week - I've only been working in my current company since October - I want a break between the time i leave and start my new position. I've been happy working with my colleagues but the company itself haven't been the best to work for so I don't feel like i owe them any faveours! What is a reasonable amount of notice to give?

If you are paid monthly, I would have thought that one month's notice would be reasonable - any less might be pushing it.

Unless you have a contract which states otherwise, you are only legally obliged to give one week's notice (no matter if you are paid weekly or monthly). Having said that, It would not be in good taste to only give that short of notice.
