real or paper losses on eircom shares

Hi,
I was one of the fools that invested in eircom and now wonder can i offset losses against shares i received in first active. i did not sell any shares but received money for eircom shares that were sold against my will. Did i incur a real loss then or just a paper loss.

Yes- but you have to apportion some of the loss against the FA capital repayment in 2003 and only the remainder against the FA takeover payment. See here:
