Hi ,
I worked for 30 years up to sept 24 when made redundant , was on jsb for 9 months and didn’t qualify for JSA after the 9 months expired as wife works - got a job shortly after in august 25 for 9 months which will end in April 26 . Will I re qualify in April for a further 9 months jSB or the new pay related JSB and how would that work in terms of weekly pay .. ie is the last 9 months average or further back average ?

You would qualify for Jobseekers pay related benefit.
Rates below

"Rates of payment

Your rate of payment will be directly linked to your previous earnings subject to a maximum or minimum rate.
We will calculate your weekly average gross earnings for the 12 months previous to the 8 weeks before you lost your employment. We will get this information directly from Revenue.
For example, if you lost your employment on Monday 7 April 2025. We will look back 8 weeks to the 10 February 2025. Your weekly average earnings will be calculated between 10 February 2024 to 10 February 2025.

Can you still apply for job seekers benefit as taking 8 weeks off my 39 weeks gives me 31 weeks at 600 per week divided by 52 weeks give me an average week of 357 for previous 12 months and 60% of that is 214.00 Euro less than JSB of 252

Can you still apply for job seekers benefit
The rules for Jobseekers benefit have been changed.
It now only applies to part time workers.

Part time work means working a shorter number of hours per week than a full time employee in a similar employment would work.

If you worked full hours per week for your 9 month contract you would be considered as a full time worker.

At 600 a week for 31 weeks (39-8) divided by 52 one will be worse off than Jobseeker's benefit

@timberman
For a Jobseekers benefit claim made in 2026, your governing year is 2024. Would your 2024 earnings be sufficient to allow you the maximum €254 for JB ?

If this is the case you could proceed as follows.
Claim JPRB on the day your current employment ceases.

Cease your JPRB claim 14 weeks before the end of 2026.
Immediately start part time employment of minimum €38 per week to run for 13 weeks. Cease this employment and immediately claim JB.

You should then qualify for 39 weeks of JB based on your 2024 earnings.

If this JB claim is rejected, you can restart your previous JPRB claim and continue on without the loss of any of your 39 weeks payments.

Disclaimer.
This should work, but as the rules for JPRB are relatively new and there were changes made to the rules for JB, nothing is 100% certain
