Raisin have added the longest duration term deposit available in the Irish market (excluding State Savings) in some time. Raisin have added Aareal Bank 7 year term deposit that pays 3.00%. Obviously a very long time to lock your money away for but it might interest some.

Meanwhile, Raisin have added Carrefour Banque. Carrefour Banque are paying 2.21% instant access. Carrefour Banque/Raisin have told the Business Post here that they apparently intend to "shake up" the savings market here and launch term deposits soon too. I guess that means some higher paying term deposits are on the way.

Interesting but difficult to see who this would attract. The current issue of National Solidarity Bonds offers the same net return (22% in total, 2.01% AER), admittedly over a slightly longer period, with the advantage that you can withdraw in part of fully at any time(**) and you holding is unconditionally guaranteed by the Irish Government. The Raisin/Aareal product locks your money away for the full duration.

(**) Early withdrawal incurs an indirect penalty as the bulk of the interest on National Solidarity Bonds is paid in the last few years.

That was quick - Carrefour Banque rate drops to 2.18% on 4 June 2025.

Banca Profilo are now paying 2.42% for 3 months without local withholding tax.
We have very rapidly gone from having almost no choice in relation to deposits to being spoiled for choice and finding it difficult to keep up ! First world problems and all that.
