Radiators banging - Whats the cause & what to do?

In a new house about year or so now and some of the radiators are banging.
Does anyone know what the cause of this is and what can be done about it.
I know a plumber os probably the guy to fix it but before I get the blah blah from him I'd like to know the casue and solution myself.

Banging Rads !

Conflicting opinions and depending on the heating system they could be both right. I have had the same and solved it by both mentioned in link above. I'd try bleeding the rads first.

Thanks Gerry, Will try the bleeding option first. Not dure what the second option is all about.
