quote for renovation of small bathroom

Im looking to get a general idea of how much it would cost to totally renovate a bathroom (apx 6ft by 4ft).

This would involve gutting the current state of the bathroom and installing a new walk in shower, WHB etc and even new flooring.

Can anyone give me a general idea of how much to expect to pay?

Decide what you want and get at least 3 estimates and ask back here again what ppl think. :)
 
I concur with what pudds says. also depends on if you are to buy all the fixtures yourself and how much you want to spend on them.
 
You could feasibly do a full bathroom refit for €3,500 but that would be very basic fittings and fixtures. A decent refit would be closer to €7,000 / €7,500. This by the way includes supply of everything but the tiles however the actual tiling would be included. (subject to the area and type of tiles).

Of course if you choose expensive tiles and solid gold taps you'll pay!

I got the job done for much less then €3500. Shop around for a deal. i got the job done for about 2500k 3 years ago. This includes a new bath(not the cheap plastic one),a jax,WHB all a good make, t90i shower,tiles(wall and floor) and the walls skimmed and painted. Not forgeting fix & fit'ns.O and Labour. There are deals out there if you want to shop around.

7k is outrageous for a 6' x 4' room!
 
There are different options for sealing the wall behind the shower to prevent leaks. We got our guy to put on a painted rubbery sealant which hardens over a day or two. This could affect your costs by +/- €1k

Agreed. Didn't actually notice the 6' X 4' part. Examples given were from and to depending on size and fittings selected. Bathroom fittings vary wildly (e.g. you can pay €1,800 for some shower doors) and the actual renovation may include changing or adding water tanks in the attic and pumps etc. All depends on what you want to put in.

A friend got a similar size bathroom done a few months ago. She paid €2,000 for the actual work. Materials cost about €3,500, but could easily have paid €800 to €900 less, as she bought a new radiator, recess lights, & a mirror costing over €200 plus she needed extra tiles/wood as she had an actual partition wall built for the side of the shower & had a press/cabinet put in under the sink. Plus she could have got much cheaper tiles than the ones she chose.

A neighbour of hers had a similar job done over a year ago & paid well over €7,000 for theirs, but they got their job done through a bathroom showroom one-stop type shop.

Great product, used it my own bathroom but should no way put a €1000 onto the price.

Was there much difference in the integrity of the "look"?

Did the one stop shop too to "all of a piece" or was it okay?

I ask because the one stop shop may sometimes supply co-ordinated suites, taps etc.

Well I’ve only seen my friend’s – I haven’t seen her neighbour’s one, but I was impressed by what I saw. She herself says that her's is nicer – but it’s all down to personal taste.

She went around & chose the stuff herself – the guy actually brought her around to the various places, to help her carry it plus they used his van.

There wasn’t really much of a co-ordination issue really, as she bought the same make sink & toilet, & a shower tray is a shower tray at the end of the day, the fittings look the same, so really the only co-ordination involved was matching the tiles with the wooden floor, which you’d have to do anyway no matter who you got to do it.

Something like that paint-on stuff, all right. It seemed to involve a fair bit of labour - nearly a full day.

Is this kind of waterproofing typical?

It would be a quite popular product. Mainly used when tiling onto a stud partiton wall. The builder had tiled directly onto the plasterboard in our case (which had rotten completely) so i removed that and replaced with WBP ply, then applied the BAL waterproofing to that as extra precaution.

The product was around €80 if i remember correctly and took me around 2 hours to apply the primer and the tanking. Small shower but still, €1000 seems very expensive. Unless this included re-boading out the shower suround or something.
 
oh and that water proffer is a must in wetrooms,,,,,,there are kits to use at home,,there diy,,, most trsadesmen use trade materials ,, they are better and more expensive but the old saying goes,,,,,you get what you pay for

id say 1000 is correct, if done by the pro

diy maybe half,but is it right ???

id rather no leaks thank you

Would you recommend it behind the tiling for a standard shower?

When you see the amount of water damage had been caused by the 'profesional' tiler tiling directly onto untreated plasterboard, you'd want to be sure of the standard of work whether DIY or otherwise. BTW, i can understand it being that costly if you are talking about a tanking membrane for a wet room but not for a standard shower instalation. FWIW, i bought the BAL kit through a 'trade' supplier and it came recomended.
