Quick Mortgage affordability Q

When we got our first mortgage, the bank applied an affordability test to our finances. i.e. We were paying €1K a month rent, had money for a deposit, no debts other than a car loan, so the bank gave us a mortgage, even though our salaries at the time wouldn't have justified a mortgage for our salaries alone.

So does anybody know does the bank still apply the affordability test? Again, we have a mortgage for "x" amount, and duplicate that amount into savings. We would like to apply for a larger mortgage, but our salaries would probably let us down.

same bank surely , would advise BoI are deffo tighter now if it were they you meant.

In your case, the bank might be quite favourably disposed, assuming you have a 100% repayment history with them. It also depends on how long ago you applied for your original morgtage - the affordability tests have changed in the last few years

LOL - No tonka, it wasn't BoI actually!
Yeah, I reckon we'll be going back to our own bank first and then shop around to see what else we can get.
Thanks for the encouraging comments
