Just wondering has anyone any experience of BETA. My husband is more than likely going to be unemployed next Febuary, he is in engineering and has a level 7 qualification. It would be a good opportunity to go back to get his Level 8 degree but will be very tough if he gets no funding as we have mortgage kids etc...
On citizens advice they state the qualifying period is 9mths on JB to get BETA, he will only be out of work 8 mths by Sept 2010 so does this mean he wont qualify? By Sept 2011 he will be on JA which we prob wont get as I work so that prob means we will be entitled to nothing. (sorry if im getting my JB and JA mixed up... not sure which is which). Do they give any lee-way on qualifing times I wonder?

There is no leeway on qualifying time; 9 months is the minimum for Third Level courses and that is only on the recommendation of the Job Facilitator or FAS, otherwise its 12 months. Also, check if the course he intends doing falls under the qualifying courses for the BTEA

Appreciate anyones comments

My understanding is that they won't fund postgrad courses with the sole exception of the HDip.

The qualifying time does not apply in the case of a statutory redundancy. In this case there is no qualifying time, however, you must be in receipt of a qualifying social welfare payment at the date of starting the course.
