PVC Front Door V Solid Timber Front Door

Hello, I am thinking of putting in a PVC front door for ease of maintenance but not sure if I should be going the solid timber way - it does say on my planning permission that 'external doors should be of solid timber construction' but I doubt County Council are going to come and check my front door!! What would advice be.....PVC or solid timber for west facing front door? Thank you.
 
Solid timber every time. It looks better, shouldn't be too high maintenance (re-paint every few years), and warping shouldn't be a problem if the wood is good quality.

I've had PVC in the past, and although they're reputed to be low maintenance they *do* sometimes warp, and the PVC degrades over time.

Plus, if you get PVC and the council does notice, you may be required to replace it anyway.
 
To balance previous post - I went from timber to timber look PVC and am more than happy.No draughts anymore as if it is high quality - the door will bolt top to bottom to seal fully around frame.Timber is also prone to expansion/retraction.Important point not to overlook is letterbox - ensure you get one fitted with bush excluder on inner.
 
I don't understand why the OP is even asking this question. The planning permission condition says use a timber door. It's very dangerous to assume this can be ignored.

And secondly, PVC doors (of any variety) look terrible anyway.

My front door is exposed to the gusts from the Atlantic Ocean. I had a wooden door for 5 years and it warped after 2 years. Earlier this year, I replaced it with a PVC door.

Remind me of this post in 2013 and I will give you a clearcut answer.

Maybe you needed a better wooden door? Perhaps you didn't treat the timber properly?
